We have extended our stay-at-home remote learning indefinitely. We are hoping that we may be able to return to campus this school year, even if it is for a short time. We continue to pray for the safety and health of all families.

    Dear Stoneybrooke Families,

I am amazed at how our Stoneybrooke community has responded to our current situation and am honored to lead our school through this difficult time. Given the current environment, we are moving our return to school date to Monday, May 4, 2020. While we are hopeful that this date will hold, we are also aware that it may change based on orders from our local and state government and public health officials.

Faculty is extremely proud of our students as they continue to meet grade level standards and become well prepared for next school year. Please continue to reach out to your teachers with any difficulties with technology or specific questions with the academics. We are working hard to take care of issues as they come up.

    Devotional

Here is a wonderful devotional video for the students based on Psalm 23, prepared by our Chaplain, Miss Worel. This is the first of several we hope to provide in the next couple of weeks. I hope you will have a chance to view it with your kids and have an opportunity for a meaningful spiritual conversation.

    Easter Break April 13 - 17

We are still going to take our regular week off for Easter Break. Our students and teachers will not be expected to do any work during this time as it is a time for much needed rest.

    Golf Classic

For those who have not heard, the Annual SB Golf Classic on May 5th has been cancelled. Look for details from our Events Coordinator, Candice McCaig. She has a couple of other items to share with you that I’m sure you’ll want to hear about!

    Standardized Tests

We have cancelled our annual standardized tests for this academic year, as have most schools nationwide. When we return to campus we want our teachers and students to be able to devote the time remaining to our regular routines and academic requirements.

During these difficult times I am so glad we serve a risen Savior. This next week, the week before Easter, has always been a special time at school. It is our chance to focus on the incredible price our Lord Jesus paid for our sins. But...the best part is He conquered death, rose again and is alive today! Keep that celebration going at home, stay safe and God bless you all.

    Dear Stoneybrooke Families,

I hope and pray you are all doing well. I am impressed with how Stoneybrooke, as a community, is responding to this difficult situation.

Here are a couple of reminders/updates for you today:

    1. If your teacher has directed you to pick up materials from school, please note the days and hours for this and stay within those windows. While on campus, practice social distancing. If weather permits, the materials will be on tables in the courtyard in front of school. If raining or the threat of rain, the tables will be inside the hallway at the front of school.
    2. Report cards will be coming to you by Monday afternoon. In grades TK-3rd you will receive an email with the report card attached. The report cards for 4th-8th graders will be accessible through Gradelink.
    3. Remote parent/teacher conferences are being held on the scheduled days, March 31, April 1 and April 2. Our teachers are reaching out to schedule these conferences.

    Dear Stoneybrooke Parents,

We are thanking the Lord each day for all He provides us. During this unprecedented time, it is so encouraging to hear the stories from you, the students and our staff where He continually shows up.

With the new stay-at-home order in place for California, we are going to extend our campus closure and continue our remote learning instruction an additional two weeks through April 10. Our regular Easter break will remain as scheduled April 13-17. Prayerfully, our first day back will be April 20.

In light of the stay-at-home policy we have encouraged our staff to work from home as much as possible. Essential school operations will continue; however, the school office will be closed. You will still be able to get in touch with any of us by going to our website (stoneybrooke.com) and clicking on the Staff tab. Everyone's email is available there.

We are adding ZOOM for another avenue of communication for our teachers. Look to teachers for details soon! We will also be having remote parent/teacher conferences on the scheduled days, March 31, April 1 and April 2. Our teachers will also reach out to you to schedule these conferences.

I pray for all of you daily and am more grateful for our Stoneybrooke family than ever.

    Hello Stoneybrooke Families,

Great job with day one! The teachers have received overwhelmingly positive feedback concerning our remote learning instruction.  In saying that, we also know there are going to be a few glitches along the way. Yesterday, Gradelink was down for a couple of hours, but that has been fixed and we are confident the issue has been resolved. We will continue to address issues as they arise.

Please stay in touch with your child's teacher; it is crucial that the lines of communication remain open.

The office, at this time, is adjusting its hours to be open from 9:00am - 3:00pm.

Continue to look for updates from me regarding school information including details of an anticipated extended school closure beyond our current two weeks.

We are all praying for you. Please share a little message we have for your kids in this video.

    In Christ,

    Jim Berkompas

    Hi Stoneybrooke Families,

Each day seems to bring more news on the efforts to halt the spread of COVID-19. We will continue to monitor the situation and give you updates for Stoneybrooke's situation as it unfolds. As it stands now, we are a closed campus for two weeks. We understand that things are changing and will update you as the situation warrants.

Today we had a good day of planning and training with our teachers and staff. We are confident in the plans they have in place and are grateful for an amazing staff to deliver instruction in a highly effective manner.

By now all of you should have heard from your student's teacher about details for the upcoming weeks. Your grade level team will be communicating with you on a daily basis. Many of you have picked up your child's books and supplies. For those of you still needing to pick up materials, we ask in the interest of safety that you check in with the front office when you arrive on campus and instructions will be provided on how to proceed.

Admin Notes will not be going out today. These updates will take the place of Admin Notes until regular school resumes.

This is an unusual time for us, our nation and the world. I am so glad I serve a living God who is in control and on the throne. Continue to trust in Him and use this time to lift Him up before your children!

    In Christ,

    Dear Stoneybrooke Family,

Over the past 24 hours, much has changed regarding the COVID-19 situation. Although there are no known cases of the COVID-19 virus within the Stoneybrooke community, we are going to do our part proactively to help prevent the spread of the virus. This decision was made with the broader community in mind and the closing of nearby schools and districts, including the OCDE superintendent announcing today his support for the suspension of school operations for at least two weeks.

Beginning this Monday, March 16 and for the next two weeks through March 27, the Stoneybrooke campus will be closed to students, but school will continue via a transition to a temporary remote learning model. The Stoneybrooke teachers and office staff will continue to work on campus during normal school hours. We will reassess reopening school after two weeks as the situation warrants.

    How will this work logistically?

This coming Monday will be a work day for the teachers to further prepare for remote learning by grade level.

Remote learning for all students in grades TK-8 will begin officially on Tuesday, March 17. There will be no Pre-School 3 or 4 year old classes.

You should begin preparing your child’s workspace at home this weekend. This may include having a desk area, computer setup, internet connection, etc.

If you are able, your child can take all their books home today (Friday), or stop by the school on Monday between 8am-3pm to pick up your child's books that will be needed beginning on Tuesday.

Teachers will begin communicating with their class by Monday afternoon via gradelink and email what will be expected of your child each day. Teachers will be utilizing a variety of tools including gradelink, videos, emails, Kahoots, and several other tools to help your child engage in continued learning.

All after school sports and classes will also be cancelled or postponed until further notice. This includes the Golf, Hockey, Soccer and Beach Volleyball teams.

We understand that you will have many questions. Please expect more detailed information from your grade level teachers beginning Monday afternoon, if not sooner. The Admin team will also continue to keep families informed with pertinent updates.

It is a joy to be a part of the Stoneybrooke family and be able to partner with you in this journey. We are confident that we will get through this situation together and continue to trust in God in these uncertain times. This is certainly a time to put our theme verse John 16:33 into action and hold onto the peace that Christ offers in a troubled world!

    Dear Stoneybrooke Parents,

Things are happening rapidly in terms of the COVID-19 situation. We are keeping our heads about us and know that God is still on the throne.

As we consider our plans, we are being diligent in considering the entire school community. We are following the guidelines of the CDC, CDPH and OCHCA and following the local school district's (CUSD) lead:

Currently, all field trips have been cancelled

Assemblies are being limited (chapel attendance was limited today)

There is a very high chance that Stoneybrooke will have to close campus for a period of time and this could be soon. This decision will be triggered by:

    • Any confirmed case within our school community
    • Any confirmed case within the CUSD community
    • Any directives from governmental agencies

In the event of closing the campus, we will continue to instruct in a highly effective manner with remote learning for all grades (TK-8).

Our teachers will have a more detailed plan for how the remote classroom will work that will be ready by this Friday for whenever it is needed. The remote classroom will allow the school to continue. There will be subject area lessons sent by teachers, videos, assignments, projects, etc. all age appropriate.

Remember if your child is sick do not send them back to school until they are well. If you are not sure, err on the side of caution and keep them home.

We are trusting in our Lord and praying for His protection.

    In Christ,

    Jim Berkompas

  • March 9th

    Dear Stoneybrooke Parents,

I wanted to give you an update on our actions concerning the COVID-19 (coronavirus) situation as it relates to our school. We continue to monitor the national, state and local agencies, in particular the CDC (Center for Disease Control and Prevention), CDPH (California Department of Public Health) and OCHCA (Orange County Health Care Agency).

Below is the latest news we have from the above agencies:

We are grateful that the risk of infection to the public in Orange County is believed to be low.

At this time, there is no recommendation to cancel schools, business or social events.

We want to remind everyone to keep your child home if they are sick and they must remain home until fever-free for at least 24 hours (without the use of fever reducing medication).

At school we continue to have our teachers encourage our students to:

    • wash hands frequently for at least 20 seconds
    • avoid touching eyes, nose and mouth
    • cover their cough or sneeze with a tissue or their sleeve (not hands).

Our teachers continue to frequently clean surfaces throughout their classrooms and our janitorial service continues to clean and disinfect all frequently used surfaces in the buildings.

We also as a school recognize that in the future there may be closures of schools. We hope that it does not come to that, but we want you to know that we are prepared to continue the school year through remote learning if needed.

Stoneybrooke continues to monitor, prepare, and plan. Let us remember that our Lord is still on the throne.

    In Christ,

    Dear Stoneybrooke Parents,

At Stoneybrooke Christian School we take your child’s health and safety very seriously. We are closely monitoring the developments regarding the novel coronavirus through the Center for Disease Control (CDC) and the Orange County Health Care Agency (OCHCA). We will track the situation vigilantly to ensure we are safe and prepared.

At this time we are equipping each classroom with ample supplies of sanitizing wipes and hand sanitizer.

The students are encouraged to wash their hands frequently throughout the day.

The teachers are wiping down surfaces throughout the day with wipes.

Our cleaning service is cleaning all surfaces and door handles with proper sanitizer on a nightly basis.

There are a few things the CDC recommends that you can do now to help reduce the spread of the flu or the coronavirus:

    • If you or your child has a fever, DO NOT come to school until fever free for 24 hours without the use of fever reducing medication.
    • Encourage your children to wash their hands frequently for 20 seconds with soap and water.  If soap and water are not available, then they should use a hand sanitizer with at least 60% alcohol.
    • Cover your nose and mouth with a tissue or sleeve when coughing or sneezing.
    • Avoid touching eyes, nose and mouth.

We are prepared to alter our procedures and planning should the situation change and will communicate possible changes when the time is appropriate.

For updated information on the coronavirus, the best sources are the Center for Disease Control and the Orange County Health Care Agency websites.

We will continue to monitor this situation closely and follow any recommended precautions to keep your children safe.

    In Christ,

    Jim Berkompas
