Who We Are
What is Stoneybrooke? Is it the attractive new classrooms and offices? Is it a gymnasium, a parking area, a playground, an athletic field? Were this the essence of Stoneybrooke Christian School, words and pictures could capture it well. But Stoneybrooke is not merely a physical entity, measurable in terms of buildings and blackboards, computers and crayons, libraries and lesson plans.
Stoneybrooke Christian School is a concept… a shining idea born in the hearts of people who saw both a tremendous need and a marvelous opportunity.
Stoneybrooke is a commitment… a passion for excellence, for achieving one’s best while cultivating a character that is pleasing to God. Stoneybrooke is a community… a family of people who love God, who are committed to Him, and who have given themselves to the ministry of educating children.

Purpose and Philosophy
The Board, Administration, Faculty and Staff, are committed to provide an educational program that seeks to develop excellence in a student – spiritually, academically, socially, emotionally, culturally and physically. In addition to a traditional core curriculum, the student will be exposed to a wide range of educational experiences including computer science, art, music and physical education.
A Christian school, Stoneybrooke is dedicated to establishing a godly environment where the Bible, as the Word of God, is actively integrated into all aspects of school life (Matthew 6:33). Each student will be challenged to live his or her life according to God’s principles and purposes (Jeremiah 9:23-24). As independent non-denominational schools, we seek to serve individual families throughout our community who share our biblical orientation and appreciate our particular philosophy of education and discipline (Deuteronomy 6:2-7).

The program is designed to balance the necessity of high academic excellence with a creative and exciting awareness of life as it will be in the 21st century. Stoneybrooke is training children now for the things that will be integral parts of their lives tomorrow.
Stoneybrooke wants its students to encounter the educational process in an environment that assures security, positive self-worth and mutual respect. The classrooms are controlled with loving discipline that is applied by qualified and dedicated Christian teachers.
It is the school’s vision that graduates of Stoneybrooke have a vibrant relationship with Jesus Christ, are intellectually prepared for higher learning and demonstrate godly character and thinking in their daily lives.
Our History
In 1982, God laid it upon the hearts of Miss Worel and a friend to start a new Christian school in South Orange County. During the spring of 1983 they pulled up roots and moved to the area to begin that work. With no students, equipment, teachers, or even curriculum that was going to be a daunting task. Office space was secured and the work began. While Miss Worel designed flyers, talked to perspective parents, and interviewed teachers, Mr. Bock was busy cutting drywall, pounding nails, and painting walls alongside the contractor.
By September, the doors were open and 38 precious students came walking through the doors for the first day of school. It was a humble beginning with three classrooms, a computer lab, two telephones and no secretary.
The school doubled the number of students and quickly outgrew the rented facilities on La Paz Road in Laguna Niguel. Within three years an additional location was secured and classes were held in a modular unit on Coast Bible Church property in San Juan Capistrano. By the end of the fourth year an agreement was made with Coast Bible Church and modular units were brought on to the five acre campus. The school had found a home.
For 13 years the student body continued to grow and the school expanded at a rapid rate. Eventually, a permanent structure became a necessity. Funds were raised and the main building was built. In the spring of 1995 parents, students, staff, and friends formed long lines carrying every single item from the portables to the permanent facility. Within two years a new two story, six classroom building was built to accommodate the junior high.

With continued growth and opportunity for expansion becoming a reality, the school secured 5.2 acres in the new community of Ladera Ranch to build a coveted second campus. In October of 2003, the junior high moved to the new campus and a brand new elementary school was started on that site.
Stoneybrooke opened a preschool at the San Juan campus location in the fall of 2011 as well as adding a homeschool program in the fall of 2015.
The Stoneybrooke Ladera Ranch campus was sold in the summer of 2015. Students and staff moved to the San Juan campus which now hosts all of Stoneybrooke Christian School – preschool, elementary and junior high.

If you are interested in applying for faculty or staff positions at Stoneybrooke, please call the school office regarding availability.
Should Stoneybrooke decide to further the application process with a prospective teacher after reviewing his/her application, transcripts and references, the applicant will be contacted for an interview with an administrator. More than one interview may be required.
An observation lesson is the next step in the interview process. This may be done as a “demonstration lesson” in one of our classrooms or as an observation in the applicant’s current classroom (student teaching or otherwise). The applicant will be notified if an observation is necessary.
Having completed an initial interview and an observation lesson, an interview with the superintendent will take place before final hiring. The applicant will be contacted if this interview is necessary.
Faculty Application Process
The application requirements for faculty positions at Stoneybrooke are as follows:
- Submit an Employment Application.
- Include a handwritten explanation of his/her Christian testimony on a separate piece of paper.
- Include a copy of his/her current resume.
- Contact three individuals, including a former principal (or previous employer) and a pastor, and have them submit letters of reference. (At some point during the interview process, these individuals may be contacted over the phone by a Stoneybrooke administrator.)
- Include copies of all college/university transcripts.
Having completed an initial interview and an observation lesson, an interview with the superintendent will take place before final hiring. The applicant will be contacted if this interview is necessary.
